Ignatius Mutoti PhD, PE is President of Retaw Engineering has extensive experience in drinking water treatment, storage, distribution and water quality and wastewater collection, pumping, treatment design and disposal, operations and process optimization. He has an intimate knowledge of the regulatory environment, and project delivery from concept to commissioning. Dr. Mutoti is a licensed professional engineer in (Virginia Lic. # 04016) and holds the following academic qualifications:

2. Masters Degree: Environmental Engineering, Universities of Sydney & New South Wales
3. Bachelors Degree: Applied Chemistry & Chemical Technology, University of Zimbabwe

EXPERIENCE SUMMARY
With over 15 years experience in various capacities including consulting, academia/research, and the municipal water/wastewater engineering, Dr. Mutoti has operated and/or designed water and wastewater treatment and pumping/conveyance facilities ranging from 0.02 MGD to 162 MGD. He has an intimate knowledge of chemistry, biology and hydraulics and their applications to water and wastewater engineering.
Consulting Experience
Dr. Mutoti has managed and coordinated multi-disciplinary teams to effectively deliver many water and wastewater projects including: planning, permitting, treatment plant design, pumping stations and hydraulic system design for the conveyance of water and wastewater, and water storage tanks. He worked as a Client/Business Development Manager, effective Project Manager, and supervised and mentored staff. His project delivery roles include developing scope & fee proposals, schematic design, preliminary studies and preparing preliminary engineering reports, completing detailed designs and specifications, providing construction period services, performing plant start-ups, regulatory approvals and permitting, O&M manuals, operations and process optimization for water and wastewater treatment and conveyance systems, industrial waste treatment. He is familiar with many projects procurement approaches for private, local, state and federal clients and engineering codes and standards.
Municipal Water / Wastewater
Dr. Mutoti has worked as a water/wastewater laboratory chemist for many years, and was responsible for all aspects from sampling, analysis, and interpretation of test results for process control, optimization and design for surface, ground and saline water plants up to 162 MGD in capacity. He has been involved with the design and operation of a variety of wastewater treatment plant designs ranging in capacities from 0.02 MGD to 50 MGD with nutrient removal processes and effluent reuse.
Academic/Research Experience
Dr. Mutoti has taught both undergraduate and graduate levels. His emphasis has been in the following areas - water/wastewater chemistry and microbiology, water treatment and wastewater treatment. Dr. Mutoti has conducted many bench-scale and pilot-scale research projects for drinking water, municipal and industrial wastewater treatment. He has presented papers at several seminars and conferences and has published several papers and a report in reputable journals and newsletters including the AWWA journal and the ASCE journal of Environmental Engineering, and the AWWARF Research Foundation.
